Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa met Swiss Ambassador Dominik Furgler yesterday (October 26) to discuss the areas in which cooperation between the two countries could be enhanced. On social media PM Rajapksa stated that such areas included investment, exports, tourism and the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic
Ambassador Furgler had commended the Government of Sri Lanka for responding to the COVID-19 pandemic by enacting and enforcing laws to prevent its spread. He is also reported to have expressed his confidence in the action taken by the government and stated that he felt safe in Sri Lanka because of it.
The Swiss government has assisted Sri Lanka by gifting equipment which would expedite the PCR testing process at the Katunayake airport. They have also expressed their support to the Sri Lankan government by promoting Sri Lankan tourism once the pandemic settled down.
