The new Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba Lakshitha Ratnayake presented his credentials on October 14 to the President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermúdez at the Palacio de la Revolución in Havana, the Republic of Cuba. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla also was present.
Having worked in the Foreign Ministry since 1998, Ambassador Ratnayake served as the Director General of Assets Management and Development of the Foreign Ministry before moving to Havana.
Warmly welcoming the new ambassador and extending his good wishes, the President also expressed the necessity of having close economic cooperation between two countries. Conveying the good wishes and felicitation of Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the ambassador thanked the Cuban government for deploying a medical team to assist Sri Lankan migrant workers based in Haiti during recent pandemic. He also assured the Cuban President that he will explore all the avenues to establish close economic relations and expand the level of bilateral cooperation, especially in the areas of international interactions, culture and health care for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
