The latest report released by the National Operation Center for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) states that only 251 beds remain in the 13 major hospitals which treat COVID-19 patients. 1440 beds have already been filled out of a total of 1691 beds which have been reserved.
However, Health Ministry officials informed Task Force members yesterday that around 3000 beds in 148 island-wide hospitals are now prepared to accommodate COVID-19 positive cases in case of any emergency as an SOS measure.
Meanwhile, the National Operation Center for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) also announced that 19 national educational institutes and 8 teachers' institutes have been have been handed over to be used as quarantine centers.
The Ministry of Education stated that the Sri Lanka Army has taken steps to send students and teachers undergoing training in these centers back home. NOCPCO also stated that the Maharagama National Institute of Education is being used by the army while the other centers function as normal quarantine centers.
