COLOMBO (Citizen) - The GCE Advanced Level Examination begins today. Arrangements have been made by the Department of Examinations to hold exams in 2648 centers islandwide from today (October 12) to November 6. The Department of Examinations said in a statement that 362,874 candidates have applied for the examination this year. 


Commissioner General of Examinations Sanath Pujitha stated that health and safety guidelines are being followed in order to prevent the potential spread of infection due to the current second wave of COVID-19 in the country. Health and safety guidelines including disinfection, wearing masks, hand washing, physical distancing are being implemented to the letter, he said. A separate examination center has been arranged for students who are currently quarantined and additional health and safety guidelines are in place during the transportation of such students. 


Secretary of Education Professor Kapila Perera stated that a comprehensive program has been put in place in collaboration with health officials, transport officials and security forces. Special trains will operate to transport students appearing for examinations in areas where curfew is in place and railway security officers and police protection has been arranged for the safety of students.
