Port City Colombo was awarded the Global Best Project, Airport/Port by international engineering and construction news magazine Engineering News-Record (ENR) at their 8th Annual Global Best Projects Award.
30 winning projects from 21 countries spanning 6 continents were recognized at this year’s Global Best Projects Awards. ENR states on its website that the projects thus recognized demonstrate “the risks and rewards - and the hurdles overcome - in designing and building internationally”. The entries were judged based on design and construction challenges, benefits to the local community and dedication to quality, innovation and safety, with a special emphasis on the diversity of global project teams and their collaboration.
The award joins several others awarded to the Port City, namely the Silver Award for Master Planning at the Singapore Landscape Architecture Awards 2017, the Gold Award at the Yuan Ye Urban Design Awards 2018, and an honorable mention at the International Federation of Landscape Architects AAPME Awards 2018 in the category of Analysis and Master Planning.
Port City Colombo was designed with the intention of expanding the Central Business District (CBD) of Colombo. The project will comprise five different precincts including the Financial District, Central Park Living, Island Living, The Marina and the International Island. The project aims to have 5.6 million square meters of built space with healthcare, education, entertainment, hotel and restaurant, retail and office facilities alongside an integrated resort and marina.
